What is SS316?
SS316 is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel grade belonging to the 300 series. The addition of 2-3% molybdenum provides significantly improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments compared to SS304. SS316 contains 16-18% chromium and 10-14% nickel, making it the preferred choice for chemical processing, marine applications, pharmaceutical equipment and coastal structures. It offers excellent resistance to sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid and other aggressive chemicals.
