What is SS316L?
SS316L is the low-carbon variant of SS316, with carbon content limited to maximum 0.03%. This low carbon content prevents carbide precipitation during welding, eliminating the risk of intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone. SS316L retains the same molybdenum content (2-3%) as SS316, providing excellent chloride corrosion resistance. It is the preferred grade for heavy welding applications, pressure vessels, and highly corrosive environments where post-weld heat treatment is not practical.
